Shooting Percentage (SH%)

Shooting percentage in lacrosse is goals divided by total shots, on goal plus missed. How SquadProfile computes it, where it shows, and how to read it.

What counts as shooting percentage

Shooting percentage is goals divided by total shots, where total shots are shots on goal plus missed shots. A player who scores five times on twenty shots is shooting 25 percent. It is the simplest answer to the question a coach asks most about an attacker: when this player shoots, how often does it go in?

Two related numbers are easy to confuse with it. Shots on goal divided by total shots says how often a player hits the cage at all. Goals divided by shots on goal says how often an on-target shot beats the goalie. Both are useful, and neither is shooting percentage.

How SquadProfile records it

Nobody enters a percentage. The app divides goals by total shots from the goals, shots on goal, and missed shots you record, per player and for the team, and keeps it current through the season. The number is only as good as the misses: a keeper who skips missed shots hands every shooter a better percentage than they earned.

Common mistakes

  • Dividing goals by shots on goal and calling it shooting percentage. That is a different, higher number.
  • Judging a shooter on a handful of shots. Two for four is 50 percent and tells you very little; wait for volume before changing who takes the shots.
  • Fixing a bad percentage by editing it. Fix the goal, shot on goal, or missed shot behind it.

Where it shows up

Shooting percentage is not a public leaderboard column; the public pages show the counts that feed it. It appears as SH% on the team's season stat table for the team's staff and in the app's season analytics, next to the shooting chart that shows where the goals and misses came from.
