Interception (INT)
An interception in girls lacrosse is a pass a defender catches to take possession. How it differs from a caused turnover, and how SquadProfile records it.

What counts as an interception
An interception is a pass that a defender catches, taking possession for her team before the ball reaches the intended receiver. The catch is the whole stat. A pass a defender knocks down and then scoops, or that a teammate scoops, is not an interception: that is a caused turnover for the defender who knocked it down and a ground ball for whoever picks it up.
Interceptions are a girls lacrosse stat in SquadProfile. The girls game has a separate stat for picks because catching a pass out of the air is a defensive skill coaches teach and want counted on its own. In boys lacrosse there is no interception stat, and a picked-off pass is recorded as a caused turnover.
How SquadProfile records it
Tap the defender who made the catch, then tap Interception. Do not also record a caused turnover for the same play; the interception is the credit. The passer gets a turnover, and if you track the opposing team, recording that turnover and the interception describes the play from both sides.
Common mistakes
- Recording an interception and a caused turnover on one pick. It is one or the other, and a catch is an interception.
- Recording an interception on a knocked-down pass. If the ball hit the ground before anyone had it, it was a caused turnover plus a ground ball.
- Looking for Interception on a boys team. Boys lacrosse records a pick as a caused turnover.
Where it shows up
Interceptions do not have a column on the public leaderboards or box scores. They appear in the app, in each player's game and season stats, where a coach can read them next to caused turnovers and ground balls for the full picture of a defender's season.
Related stats
- Caused turnover: the credit for a knocked-down pass or a check.
- Turnover: what the passer is charged with.
- Ground ball: the scoop on a ball that hit the turf.
